Personal Responsibility

I once read a story about a warehouse surrounded by homes. The people in the homes were up-in-arms because the warehouse had all of these trucks going to and from it starting at 5:00 or 6:00 in the morning. These neighbors said that the warehouse ownership should be more considerate of the homeowners and where circulating petitions to have local government pass an ordinance keeping the trucks out until 7:00.

However, if you dug a little deeper into the story you would find out that the owner of the warehouse had bought that property many years ago. Not only that, he purposely bought property that was out of town, far away from where people lived because he was expecting a lot of trucks which would start work very early. In the intervening years, the population grew and developers eventually bough land near the warehouse and put up houses that people bought. The same people that are now complaining about this inconsiderate warehouse.

You can find the same story happening around some small airports. It seems like people ought to take more responsibility for their bad decisions.
