Burying the Lede

The lede in publishing is the most important point of a story and usually comes at the beginning. Burying the lede means to put the most important part of a story later, to make less of an impact. Sometimes this is done deliberately to slant a story the way the author prefers, a sign of dishonesty on the part of the author.

Of course, this is done in everyday life, too. It is human nature to de-emphasize part of a story that is unfavorable to cast ourselves in a better light. It takes courage to own up to the full truth.
